Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina
If an apartment rental agreement is signed and there are no provisions in the agreement for the rentor leaving before the lease is over, is that legal? Can someone break the lease if enough advance notice is given? Is there a standard amount of time or is it up to the leasor? Can they make you pay for the entire lease?

If there is no provision in the lease that describes the penalties for the tenant breaking the lease, the law presumes that you are responsible for rent until the end of the lease or until the unit is re-rented.
