how to break apartment lease when unemployed cant afford rent with 13 month lease

There is no way to break a lease. However, read your lease. Some landlords will agree to let you out of the lease if you offer to pay 2-3 months rent as liquidated damages. You also might see if you can find a replacement tenant as that will lessen your damages.
