Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

We co-signed a lease for our daughter's apartment where she is in college. Our daughter's roommate was letting a man live with her that was bringing stolen goods, drugs and guns into the apartment. My daughter was scared. The staff at the apartment complex were made aware of this by the other girls in the apartment, as well as, a call from me. Absolutly nothing was done about it, so we moved our daughter out just before exams in December of 2009. We had to put her in a hotel for almost two weeks and pay storage for her belongings until we could find a new apartment. We had our lawyer read over the lease and he said that they had breached the contract by allowing all of this to go on and not providing a safe haven for her to live in. He is now retired. They turned us over to collections. We wrote collections and explained wht had gone on. They stopped contacting us, but now the apartment staff is billing us again. I wrote a letter to the apartment after taking her out of there telling them how they had breached the contract and we would not pay them and asked to be reimbursed for our expenses. They keep adding to the bill everytime they send one. What to do??????

You need to hire a lawyer who is familiar with the NC Residential Landlord Tenant Act and let that lawyer deal with them. You are unlikely to get this resolved without a lawyer.
