Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

My hours at work have been cut from 40 down to 20 which is a loss of $400-600 per pay check. I now cannot afford the apartment that my family and currently reside in. Am I able to break my lease without being penalized?

You can break your lease, but you will be bound by the terms of the agreement and its penalties. Although the reason for your breach is not your fault, it also isn't your landlord's. The landlord can still hold you liable for rent untilt he premisses is re-rented.
