What happens if your landlord never notified you regarding the location of your security deposit? According to the "Tenant Security Deposit Act" in NC landlords are supposed to notify within writing the account your security deposit is located in.

You are correct but there is no real teeth behind the law. As long as you get your security deposit back in accordance with the law, there is no real harm.
