Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I had listed my house for rent with a maximum of 3 people. I had several calls about it, and quickly said no to all because they were large families. Recently I read that I must allow 2 people per bedroom. That would be 6 people in this small 100-year-old 1-bedroom house -- and that is way more "normal wear and tear" than I want to deal with. So I now just have the house "for sale". I am now worried that if I rent it to a couple, somebody else that previously called about renting the house before (but I turned down because there were 5 people in the family) will sue me. Can they? How can I legally rent my house now? Also, if I put it back up for rent, do I really have to allow up to 6 people? I'm in North Carolina

You said its a 1 bedroom house? Why would you be required to rent it to 6 people....the general rule of thumb is that local rules allow up tot 2 people to bedroom...not sure how you got 6 if there is only 1 bedroom.
