Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina
Management failed to disclose all cost information and ended up causing me to lose money. They failed to notify me of a $500 dollar deposit (refundable) that needed to be paid by whoever was taking over my lease. I had someone willing to take over and would have been happy to put this deposit down, but upon finding this out, backed out and didn't sign the lease because of fear of more unexpected costs that may or may not be refundable. I pretty much just lost $1000 dollars because the manager failed to disclose all cost information when I asked about all costs. I now have to pay for an apartment that I'm not going to be living in. I had even been sent a money order already for the other known fees that I actually WAS told about, which I will now have to refund when it arrives. Can I take any legal action against management or have ground to mutually terminate my lease so I will not lose that much money?

It sounds like you were trying to find a new tenant to replace you. Unfortunately the landlord owes very little duty to you in this situation. It sounds like before any agreement was signed, the fee was disclosed. Thats not a hidden fee. A hidden fee is one that comes up after the person is locked in.
You should speak to your landlord and see all of the fees that will be necessary so you can tell prospects yourself.
