Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I recently moved into a house for rent with my mother, her boyfriend, and my sister. Due to the nature of this arrangement, I will only be here temporarily. (I just graduated college and I am looking for a place on my own) The house that they just moved into requires everyone over 18 to sign the lease. Now I am not the primary leaseholder, nor am I contributing anything toward the bills. I want to know if I am capable of safely leaving, once I find a new place, and have myself removed from the lease.

You are...if the landlord agrees. By signing the lease you are agreeing to a contract even if you aren't the primary tenant. You need to get a written agreement from the landlord to let you out when the time comes.
