Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

Sercurity issues in rental property

I am in Iraq and my legal representative rented a property in my name and moved my belongings into the property. A week later, we relized that I was a victim of Identity theft. THe person knew the new address, ssn, and had checks. When my legal representative, who lives out of state, checked on the property, she found that items were taken from the apartment however, there was no forced entry and the deadbolt was in place. Can I break the lease on grounds that the apartment was negligible in replacing the locks or in assisting someone in attaining the key to my apartment?

Re: Sercurity issues in rental property

How long is the lease for?

Who was to stay in the property?

WHo signed for the lease (and provided ID)?

I would need more info and get the lease reviewed before I could advise you, but you have a major legal problem.
