Why is it important to follow established state and federal laws and professional codes of ethics when providing psychological tests and assessments

Are you serious? Many licensed professions have ethical codes - CPAs, lawyers, doctors etc. They are there because some practictioner crossed the line way back when and the licensing board decided that there had to be an ethical code or laws to protect vulnerable patients. Why would it surprise you that psychologists would have them as well?
