Legal Question in Military Law in North Carolina

Benefits lost with Other Than Honorable Discharge

When an individual gets discharged from the Marines with ''Other Than Honorable'', what benefits are lost?

I have been told that just Veterans benfits are lost and then I have been told that one loses ALL federal benefits, including social security, medicare/medicaid, disability, all federally funded loans, grants or scholarships for college, etc.

What do you lose with a ''General'' discharge?

What is the real answer?

You lose all or potentially all VA benefits. There are some very limited circumstances where a person with an OTH can still get VA medical. You don't actually "lose" student loans, rather it becomes a potential bar to getting federal school loans. Depends on the circumstances.

With a general discharge it's basically any MGIB education money that's lost.

about.com has a chart available on their website I think.
