Legal Question in Personal Injury in North Carolina

I am an attorney in Louisiana. I have a good friend who was involved in an auto accident in Raleigh, NC, on November 24, 2014. She was not at fault and she had serious injuries, which required knee surgery. She hired a local firm in Raleigh, but they have had her case since the accident date and she has still never even met with her attorney, nor has she even been given a copy of her retainer agreement. As far as she knows, nothing at all has been done on her case. She has been directed to speak only with her "case manager" and there have already been three case managers, due to turnover at the firm. She doesn't even know if suit has been filed, what the policy limits of the other driver are, nothing. She is understandably unsatisfied and asked me to help her find another attorney to handle the matter. She isn't interested in badmouthing her present law firm, or filing any complaints, or the like. She just wants an attorney who will work on her case and give her information from time to time on what is going on. I was loathe to step in, but I think an attorney who hasn't even met with his client of one and a half years and refuses to give any information when asked isn't doing his job. I can personally assure you that she is not a "problem client", though.

I don't want any fee, obviously, as I don't practice in NC. I just want to help her find a good attorney and I know as a Law Guru attorney contributor myself that there are many good attorneys on this site. Certainly, there would be some fee split with the previous firm, but it seems like a good case to me and there should be more than enough fee to go around between you and them.
