Legal Question in Personal Injury in North Carolina

Client Objectives

I am a paralegal student and confused about a question I need to answer.

I am to outline an investigation plan:

Client objectives

Theory of case

What should I be looking for?

Re: Client Objectives

Hmmm. That's sort of vague. Perhaps something from your textbook or from class would provide more guidance. It's really not clear what you or the teacher are looking for. Were you given more specific facts, or instructions? I am not sure how "outlining an investigation plan" is connected to "client objectives" and "theory of case." My assumption would be that the assignment is to outline a plan, considering a given set of he client objectives and a given theory of the case. (Or is your assignment to determine client objectives and the theory of the case also? A paralegal could conceivably develop a "theory" for a case, but that would be somewhat unusual; as for the clients' interests, that would I think have to come directly from the client.) In a personal injury case, the objective is primarily MONEY. There may be lesser considerations in a given case such as an interest in privacy, or in not offending one's friends or neighbors. A plan for this would be, for example, to interview the claimant, interview any witnesses, visit the accident scene and take photos, take photos of vehicles and obtain accident report (where applicable), obtain medical records, and prepare a settlement package. Without knowing the specifics of the case or your assignment, it is difficult to give more guidance. Good luck.
