Legal Question in Personal Injury in North Carolina

how much to settle for

I was injured at a hotel from a peice of metal sticking out from up under the bed. taken to hospital from hotel; required 8 stitches; wound later (2 days) became infected and i was out of work for 2 weeks. The hotel's insurance is ready to settle. My medical bills are $1802 and lost wages are $700. They asked me how much did i want to settle for; what is an reasonable amount? They didn't reimburse me for my hotel stay; i live 2 hours from where the incident took place; i ruined my shoes (bloody). My daughter had to take care of me for 3 days because i was on complete bed rest. What's an roundabout reasonable amount to settle for and avoiding me filing claim/litagation? My leg is doing fine. Just a small scar and I doubt any future problems.

Re: how much to settle for

These claims are difficult to evaluate without a complete picture of the injuries. You can always start with a high demand and try to negotiate the best settlement. Assuming that you have no permanent injuries then your settlement would probably be somewhere in the four figures. You probably need to consult with an attorney and provide him or her with more facts to help you evaluate the claim.
