Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

Deed

My husbands is a joint owner of some property along with a ex live in girlfriend ( they do have a minor child together). My husband is deceased, how can i get his share of the property value. My lawyer said there was nothing i could do. The ex's credit isnt good enough to refinance by herself. So does she just get to keep the house & property?
