Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

Eviction

I lost my job and has not been able to pay my rent. My landlord stated that he was going to come in and change the locks. I have not been given any kind of eviction notice or anything. Can he just come in and change the locks or does he have to go through the courts ?

For residential leases in NC, he cannot just come in and change the locks. He needs to go through a summary ejectment procedure in small claims court.
