New Home Property Line Question

We built a home last year in High Point, NC and paid an extra $3000 for a cul-de-sac lot. The builder wants to built a spec home next to our but because of the woods and reserved land, there is very little room and few options for layout with a new house. I know where my property begins and ends. Legally, how far does my future neighbor's home have to be from my property? They have placed the wooden markers for the slab, and the home literally begins inches from where my property starts. So the corners of the two homes will be about 8 feet apart. The new home will have near zero land on the side adjacent to my home. It seems the builder didn't split the cul-de-sac right and should have placed my home over more, but it's obviously too late now? I have spoken with the builder reps, and they know we are concerned, but is there anything legally I can do to prevent the new home from being on top of mine?

There is nothing I know of that says how far a home must be. It is a fact specific situation that depends on city and county ordinances, zoning and developer imposed setbacks. Call your closing attorney - perhaps he or she can tell you.
