If I currently have a life estate relating to farm land in Trenton, NC, would I have any options to change the status such as selling it?

If you have the life estate, you can only sell what you have...which is the life estate. A review of the deed would be necessary to determine who could change that status. Depending on the language of the Deed and the competency and age of the others involved, either the remainder interest person could change it or the original transferor.
