Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

I just received a letter that my ex-husband's truck was repossessed. My name is listed primary on the title. I am willing pay off the balance due and redeem the truck but I am worried aout the title situation. I talked to the NC DMV and was told that once I got the vehicle and the title that the only way I can get the title in my name is to have him sign off on the title. We are not on speaking terms at all and I know he will not sign over the title. I want to keep my credit clear of this but I don't want to pay off this loan balance and not be able to get a clean title in my name. How do I proceed?

I don't know the answer but maybe you can speak with the repossession company. In a normal case, they would presumably take over the title and sell it to a third party. Maybe you can explain the situation and see if there is anything that can be worked out in that regard.
