Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

I rented a house from an individual for nine years (2002-2011). I signed a lease in 2002 and then again in 2003, but no subsequent leases.

My question is, am I bound to the agreements in the original lease since I haven't re-signed one since 2004?

Why do you want to know? What are you trying to accomplish? That is the question you should be asking.

Usually, the answer is yes. You are still bound by all the terms and conditions with the exception that you are now a holdover tenant such that you could move in the middle of the lease period as long as you gave adequate notice to the landlord that you will not be renewing your lease (which is now month to month) when it expires at the end of the month. However, the language of your last signed lease will control so you need to see that.
