Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

seller of motorcycle sued by buyer to get back buyer's payments

My friend, ''Hope'', is being sued by her neighbor for about $1,000. (Hope can not afford legal help.) Neighbor agreed to buy her motorcycle last year and make monthly payments on it. NOW he's sueing to get his money back (-he can't make the payments). Cycle (and amount owed) is still in Hope's name-shop she bought it from is slow to provide her w/info for court Feb. 8. She only had a verbal agreement about purchase w/neighbor (stupid)-which he denies. She can get a few written statements from people that the cycle is hers, WAS for sale and that it was known (from her telling people about it)that neighbor was buying the cycle on payments. What can she do to help prove, in court, that neighbor WAS buying cycle on payments and that she should not have to pay him back? Neighbor still has the key to cycle.

Re: seller of motorcycle sued by buyer to get back buyer's payments

I guess I'm not following what the basis for his suit is. He is suing to get money back - well he would have to explain why he gave the money to her in the first place? In other words, what exactly is the basis of his complaint?
