Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

I am separated (not legally) and would like to buy a home. What would I need to do in order to have the house in my name only and to ensure my soon to be ex has no rights or responsibilities to this house. I live in NC. Thanks

Ex will not have responsibilities as long as ex is not a borrower on the loan. But as far as possible marital rights - you would want a free trader agreement executed by you and your ex and recorded. It would give each of you the right to own property without requiring the joinder of the other and it would wive any marital rights each of you would have in the property.
