Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

Termination of lease and money due

I was informed on 9/16 in writing that my landlord was not renewing my lease (expires 11/16) and had to vacate by that date. I had a discussion with landlord that if I found another place before 11/16 would they terminate the lease before 11/16 and prorate the time that I had stayed (I already paid for Sept in full). She said yes, and when I asked for written confirmation a week later she sent a letter stating I would have to pay for Oct in full and they would prorate Nov. - If I leave sometime in Oct because I have found another home, do I have to pay for the whole month of Oct since they are not renewing the lease?

Re: Termination of lease and money due

Landlord typically would have no obligation to renew lease (unless the lease states otherwise) and you are still responsible for the term of your original lease.
