Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

Hi! I have an unusual situation. My family and I live in the same house as my younger (27) developmentally disabled sister. She is emotionally unstable and verbally abusive to my parents on a routine basis. We need boundaries--she is living downstairs in a large living room and has access to the downstairs bathroom and kitchen. They would like her to stay out of the common areas but this needs to be enforced, so she will be treated like an adult. We may need to use our legal rights since my father is the property-owner and she pays rent ONLY for the use of her "condo". If she crosses a clearly defined boundary (using colored tape on the floor) could we report her for trespassing? Do we need to use NO trespassing signs or tape to enforce it? We live in NC. thanks, Christi

Why don't you contact some of the professional organizations that deal with developmentally disabled adults, such as Easter Seals of NC, in Raleigh, and see if someone can help you guys with this problem.

I cannot see you getting any relief charging your disabled little sister with trespassing.

Your compassion is absolutely inspiring.
