Legal Question in Tax Law in North Carolina

Privacy violated

I recently filed my taxes online. I wanted my refund to be mailed to me. However, the IRS direct deposited my refund into my bank account. The question is: If I did not give my account number to the IRS and if I did not give my permission to release the account number to my bank, how did they get the account info that had only been opened for approximately 1 month? I feel as though my privacy rights have been violated.

Did you ever figure out how that happened?

Re: Privacy violated

I suspect you are mistaken. You or your accountant must have given them the account number and must have told them to deposit the refund directly. If you don't remember doing those things, then someone at the IRS must have looked at some check (estimated tax payment?) or something to find your account number, but I find that hard to believe.

Oh well, that's my opinion!
