Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
My 18yr old daughter was driving back from college (to Atlanta) and received a speeding and reckless driving ticket in NC. She was doing 94 in a 65 on I-85. At her court date, what are our options? Should she take a defensive driving class prior to her court date? Are there other things we can do to mitigate this?

She doesn't need defensive driving classes - that's what everyone else need's when she is on the road - what she needs is a safe driving class but 94 in a 65 is way beyond simply rolling up into Court with your own safe driving school certificate, a cute smile and paying a small fine. At almost 30 over, her driving was likely careless and reckless as charged. She needs to hire an experienced traffic attorney and her primary focus should be keeping her driving privilege and learning a valuable lesson. She can expect legal fees of $195 to $500 (at a minimum), Court cost of $188 plus fine (if any), some sort of safe driving class and / or community service (again at a minimum). After all is said and done expect her to get pinched for at least $750. Best of luck!
