Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
I was charged with failure to reduce speed and driving without a license. I was not aware I didn't have a drivers license. Went the next morning to DMV stated a fine for $50 was showing up from 2000. This is 2015 and I have had 3 sets of license since this date. Got my license that same morning. I did fail to reduce speed to avoid the accident. I rear ended a lady driving an SUV and hit her at app. 10-15 mph. The speed limit was 35 mph. The very front car slammed on their breaks at a yellow light causing a chain reaction for about 5 vehicles. I was at the tail end of it and wasn't able to get stopped completely in time. I have full coverage on my insurance, so they are handling her side of things. Do I need an attorney or can I fight this myself? If I can, what do I need to present to the judge?

Slow your roll chief - no need to come out of the gate swingin' - you don't have to 'fight this' and you likely won't have to deal with a judge. Based on the facts you presented, most likely, these are charges any ADA will be happy to dismiss. Generally you will need a letter from your insurance company that states all claims were paid and a copy of your renewed license. If you don't want to go to Court yourself, you can hire a local traffic attorney to do it for you most likely for a nominal fee since probably all he or she will be doing is handing copies of your documents to the ADA. Best of luck to you!
