Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Should i go to court by myself?

I wanted to know if i should go to court alone. Im a 17 year old high school/college student(dual Enrolled)and i recieved a 55mph in a 35mph speeding ticket in my home town. I know that 20 over is a substantial amount but i was thinking i should just plead guilty to 9 over and pay the court costs and the ticket fee. Or should i take my PJC? I have never gotten any kind of ticket before so i have a totally clean record. Should i try to plead by myself or should i bring someone older to help me out?

Generally, a 9 over is fine if you have a clean record. I typically recommend saving the PJC since you are only allowed one per household for insurance purposes every three years. The difference is you will get DMV points with the 9 over, but not with the PJC. But the 9 over will not affect your insurance if it is your only ticket in the past three years.

As far as going yourself each county has different policies. Generally, they will give some sort of plea to anyone who shows up. In some counties, attorneys may have more success in getting non-moving violations. Also, your age could be a factor as some counties may require you to go to driving school.

You may want to go down yourself and see what the DA will do. If you are satisfied, take it. If not, then ask for a continuance and hire an attorney.
