Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Fender Bender

I had a fender bender back in early Oct 2016 and we agreed to not involve our insurance companies at the time. A few weeks later he sent me an estimate for repairs which was much higher that what we had discussed via phone. I asked him to get an estimate from a friend's (legimate business) body shop (we could get the repairs done cheaper since we are friends with the owner) and to let me know when he was available and I'd make him an appointment. Didn't hear back from him until 6 months later when he sent me a similarly high 2nd estimate from some other body shop. His car is only worth about $2k max and the 2 estimates he sent were around $900. From speaking with our friend, we know this could be fixed for almost half the price. What are my obligations? Options? I really don't mind paying to get it fixed using my friends shop but don't think it's worth paying so much when I know we could it done much cheaper.

I understand your desire to pay as little as possible but according to you, its only a $450ish difference - consider it the cost of him agreeing to save you money and settling out of Court. Even at the full $900, you are likely getting off easy compared to the spanking an attorney would lay on you if he decided to hire one.
