Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
License re-instatement
I have 2 tickets that are 10 years old, and they are preventing me from getting a license. I got a speeding ticket in October of 1999 and hired a lawyer to represent me in court. I got pulled over in June of 2001 for an expired tag (2 days) and was told then that my license was suspended in December 0f 1999 for failure to appear. When I went before the magistrate I was told that a warrant had been issued for my arrest for FTA, my attorney didn't show up in court for me. So I was charged with driving while license revoked, and expired registration sticker, and FTA. This has been going on for 8 years and I still do not have a license. I know I have a legal obligation and that I need to pay my fines, but that is alot of money and I cannot afford it, I have two children to care for. What can I do? I cannot get a job because I do not have a license. Is it possible for me to get a restricted license? I know people that have DUI's that don't go through this. What can I do?

Re: License re-instatement
You really need to hire an attorney or take care of it yourself. I can't understand why it has taken 8 years to get this straightened out.
Do you have any proof or documentation that you hired an attorney? Did you pay the attorney? Either way, you need to get the first ticket taken care of first - if you can get a judge to nunc pro tunc it - meaning that the plea is entered as of the date of the ticket, that could possibly take care of the 2nd ticket by itself. You probably will need to hire an attorney though.
