Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
i live in a county with no leash law.a stray dog was hit in front of my house the vehicle was damged I removed dog from road and checked to see if car was drivable.they asked for my name and number now they are calling wanting me to reimburse them for car damages.I have not spoke to them they just leave voicemails.what should I do?am I responsible?

Responsible? Now why should you think of yourself as being responsible? Have you been lying about the 'stray' dog being 'stray'? Yes? I don't think you have much to worry about. As long as they can not prove you owned the dog and you didn't / don't make any admissions to such - you should be fine. Just tell them it was not your dog and for them to seek satisfaction elsewhere - as in possibly by filing through their own insurance and tell them to watch out for dogs in the road in the future! And by the way, NC has a state wide dog leash law of sorts so your particular county has at least the state wide leash law. Oh, one last thing - don't give dog killers your name and number!
