Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
NC Speedy trial rights for traffic violation
Hi, Thanks for offering this great forum.
I am writing to inquire as to whether or
not there is any right to a speedy trial
for traffic violations (speeding) in the
state of NC. If so, what is the time
frame. Thank you.

Typically, you can plead not guilty and it will be set for the officer's next court date. If the officer doesn't show, it will be up to the judge to grant a continuance or dismiss the case. Many times, the Judge will probably continue it at least one time until the officer's next court date.
