Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
I received a speeding ticket in VA in November. I have a NC drivers license. I have not been able to pay the full amount and of course with court fees the fine almost doubled. I received my "notice to pay and of suspension for failure to pay" notice. Can VA suspend my NC drivers license? If not, and NC imposes penalty on me, do you have any idea how long NC would take to do so? Thanks!

Court fees do not double your fine - your fine is the fine and Court fees are court fees. This is why you should have hired an experienced VA traffic attorney who likely could have worked with you and kept this case open while you made payments. Instead, it seems you choose to do nothing - how's that workin' out for ya? Anywho, Virginia has no authority to suspend your North Carolina drivers license. However, if you get a ticket up there and don't take care of it, Virginia will very politely ask North Carolina to suspend your drivers license and North Carolina will very likely do just that. If you get a ticket in VA and don't take care of it timely, NC will suspend you until you do take care of it and then both states will tag tap you prison style with penalties and fees. So basically, it appears you took what could likely have been a quick easy $200 to $400 fix with a VA traffic attorney and turned it into $1500+ in unnecessary dum dum fines.
