Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

SC Driver with NC Speeding Ticket (84 in 65)

I am an SC driver stopped on 11/25/05 for going 84 MPH in a 65 zone in NC on I-85. NC ticket commands either I go to court in Shelby or secure a lawyer to go with (or for) me - no fines or other options noted on ticket. Violation is above 55 MPH and also 15 MPH over the posted limit - in the realm of a minimum license suspension of 30 days if convicted per NC driver's handbook. However, in SC this is a much less serious violation - a fine and points, but no chance of suspension (as far as I can tell). How serious is this for an SC-licensed driver? I am curious how much real danger my license is in if I get no relief in court and the NC ticket stands as written... I am also curious how much legal representation may be able to help me.

Since NC and SC have reciprocity between the states, whatever action that NC takes against you, SC should follow suit. This may include a license suspension. Meaning that if the offense is severe enough under NC law, SC will follow whatever NC does.

My advice is to get an attorney, familiar with the local rules to represent you. I do not practice in Shelby so I do not know what the fees run in that jurisdiction.
