Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina
Speeding ticket
I received a speeding ticket in Cabarrus county NC.
I didn't think I was speeding, so I took my car to the garage to have it checked. Mechanic informed me
that the speedometer was not functioning properly.
Speedometer is now fixed, and I have recipts for verification. How do I plead in court? I will pay fine if necessary, but am trying to avoid points on my license and insurance increase. Any suggestions?

Re: Speeding ticket
An improper equipment is what you are looking for, which is a non-moving violation. Depending on the county and the district attorney and your speed it may be possible or not to get an improper equipment when you go to court.
An attorney in that county could tell you the probability of getting an improper on your own.
A low enough speed may not cause your insurance to go up depending upon your record.
