Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Got A speeding ticket while going on vaction

I was going on vacation to flordia, from New Jersey. I got stopped in North Carolina twice for speeding. I have two speeding tickets from NC now. IM not going to pay the tickets. A friend told me that its ok not to pay the tickets as long as I dont go back to NC or get into trouble there. Is that true? Also What if I just payed the tickets, would those points carry to me as a NJ licenced driver?

Please respond back, we are all confused here.

Re: Got A speeding ticket while going on vaction

I cannot respond with reference to NC law, since I do not practice there. This response is in relation to NJ law, which I would suspect is similar.

If you do not pay a ticket in NJ, first, a warrant will issue for your arrest. Usually, that warrant does not cross state lines, but it can. Second, your driving privileges will be suspended in NJ. If you are an out of state driver, ultimately, the suspension will come back to haunt you. When you go to renew your license, there may be a nationwide check on you, and out of state problems can be found. This will prevent you from renewing your license.

My advice to you is to hire an attorney in NC who can represent you without you actually being present in court. This can usually be done through an affidavit. While you will spend money to hire the lawyer, you may be able to avoid getting any points and your fines can be reduced.

Don't just ignore the tickets.
