Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in North Carolina

My dads girlfriend was given lifetime rights to his house.There was a ins policy that was set a side to maintain the home.She has taken his death very hard and seems to be showing signs of mental illness.The house goes to my two daughters after her death.Does my oldest daughter have the right to take over the estate If the girlfriend is found to be mentally ill?

Read the will or other document giving lifetime rights. If the girlfriend is mentally ill, she may need someone to be her power of attorney. If the girlfriend has to be hospitalized or renounces her right to have the life estate (eiither on her own or through her power of attorney) and gives it to your daughters, then they can take over the home.
