Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in North Carolina
My father passed away recently and I was given all of his assests including his house. The estate falls under a small estate procedure. I spoke with an attorney and his fee will be $750.00 to handle my case. Would this be considered a proper amount since the estate is so small? Thank you for your response.

Generally, the clerk sets the fees especially for a small estate. Fees depend on the size and complexity but can range anywhere from between 1% and 7% generally. I do not know what is customary for your county nor do I know about the details of the estate other than your assertion that it is within the limits of small estates.
I know the estate is small here. However, the same work has to be done whether the estate is $10,000 or $100,000 or $1,000,000 in size, even if you are the only beneficiary. I would talk with the clerk of the probate court though to see what all will be involved.
You do not need to hire an attorney and can do it yourself if things are truly uncomplicated. Or you can shop around and see what the going rate is for other attorneys who probate estates in the county where your father lived at the time of his death.
