is a will valid in north carolina if only one witness signs?

No. Two witnesses are needed if the will is typed. There are exceptions, but don't go there. Its problematic. It will save your loved ones much distress just to take the time and do it right.

You need 2 witnesses if the will is typed. To be self-proving, the will must be notarized.

IF the will is ENTIRELY in the handwriting of the testator, then the will does not have to be witnessed, but the will must be found among the testator's "important" papers at the time of death.

Again, its no big deal to get a will witnessed and notarized so its always better to do it.
