2 witnesses are needed and a will can be made self proving. I wouldn't suggest drafting a will by yourself though.

Only 2 witnesses are needed in NC. The will has to contain a notary certificate and both you and the witnesses must sign in front of a notary. I recommend a signing ceremony with you and the witnesses all present. In addition, the laws of some states require three witnesses and even if you never leave NC, it is always a good idea to get a third person in case there are problems. The witnesses cannot be beneficiaries under the will. You want the will to be self-proving so that your executor does not have to drag the witnesses into court or find them and get them to sign a form later.

I do not know where you are located or the kind of estate that you have. If you have under $1,000,000 in assets, I can do a simple will will for you for a reasonable fee. Please contact me if interested.
