Legal Question in Workers Comp in North Carolina

If someone becomes temporarily unemployed due to a medical issue, can they qualify for unemployment benefits? The person would be out of work for 6 weeks and then return to the same job and employer.

You can apply for it, but if the illness renders you unable to do any kind of work, you would not qualify for unemployment. In addition, it does not seem that your unemployment is due to the fault of the employer.

You should ask whether your employer offers "short term disability" insurance as a benefit of your employment. You may qualify for that benefit.
