Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in North Dakota

My son was recently arrested and was not read hismiranda rights.... i thought that it was the law that when arrested the arresting officer had to read your rights.... am i incorrect?

that is just movie stuff....there could be legal consequences during the case for not reading Miranda, but it is not a requirement it be read.
