Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Dakota
Judge lieing
Hello, I live in Beaumont Texas. I previously lived In Devils Lake ND, were I was charged with theft of property. I did time in Bismark State prison, then was paroled on an interstate compact here to my hometown. I did 1 year of parole and was told after that tear I would be done. However, Probation dept. contacted me and said I had another 4 years to do on probation. At which point I contacted Laurie Bokn the district attorney in Devils lake, and she said the judge would drop my probation if I paid off all the restitution that I owed, $1966.01. I sold my car gave my dad the money and he paid with credit card. I have all the emails, responses and signatures of every email conversation that I have had. Now I recieved a lettter from the judge saying he decided not to let me off of probation until I pay the other person that was a part of the theft of property's restitution of about $1800, because he hasn't paid it. It seems unfair This letter was mailed and sighned By Judge Foughty.

Re: Judge lieing
You were probably ordered to make the restitution as joint sand several, which means that you both owed the full amount. If one party can't pay the other party would then remain responsible for the unpaid balance. The best chance you have is to pay the money to the court and then go after the other person for his half.
