Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Dakota
slander of a boss?
I was told something about my boss, and I told some other people at work about what I heard.Other people had heard about the same thing before I did.Well the rumor spread around quickly, and now I'm being blamed for it,saying I had started it.(The rumor was about my boss and her brother swithching tags on items at a department store and getting away with it.)The person who had waited on them started it. But my boss swears she never was there. She's a very good liar. There is nobody at my work who you can talk to about it. Well now her and her brother are trying to say they are thinking of suing me,but it was everyone also at work spreading it, and now I'm the scapegoat. Can they sue me? And I really don't have anything worthwhile for them to sue me for. What do I do?

Re: slander of a boss?
You are likely being set up for termination, not civil suit. This case highlights the legal impact of passing on gossip. Unless you have witnessed illegal behavior ( and have it on tape or another eyewitness), it is best not to advertise it, especially about someone who has economic power over you.
