Legal Question in Employment Law in North Dakota
I found out from an agency other than my work place that I was no longer employe
I had been working an after school program and summer day camp for about a year when I found out that I was no longer employed there. The problem I have is that I found out that I was no longer employed there from the Housing Authority (I am on HUD)who was attempting to varify my employment info. This was on 8-29, my boss still has not contacted me to let me know I have no job, but has told my co-workers that I was laid off due to a shortage in children this year. Is there anything that I can do (sue her or the place of business) for not telling me first or at all that I was laid off?

While we do not practice law in your state, I don't believe there is any claim I could think of that would enable you to sue your emloyer under these circumstances. The law is generally that an employer is free to terminate your employment for any reason, at any time . . . so it is unfortunate the circumstances you are in but likely not unlawful. Please immediately consult an attorney in area for advice.
