Legal Question in Employment Law in North Dakota

Restricting employment

I worked for a small cellular phone company that was bought out by a major company on Aug. 1. My job was eliminated; it ends Nov. 1. I will receive a 3 month severance package and a $1000 bonus if I stay until Nov. 1. I was told that I cannot take any job with another cellular phone company for 1 year.

Is this legal to restrict who I can work for? And if so, can they do it for a full year? If they make me sign a restriction agreement in order to get my severance package is this legally binding? I work in ND. and live in Mn.

Do not sign or agree to anything until you have it reviewed bt experienced legal counsel. Call or email for further assistance.

Non-competes MAY be enforceable but have many requirements to be VALID.
