Legal Question in Tax Law in North Dakota

I am trying to find advice for the legal/tax side of starting a fund/foundation/nonprofit organization. My family & I want to help pay for boarding and veterinarian costs for the pets of people in critical care situations. A very dear friend passed away recently and his dog was left behind. In advance he thankfully made arrangements to have his beloved pet cared for. Not everyone is that fortuante. We own a pet business and have had owners of dogs that were boarding with us pass away leaving unpaid vet bills and nobody for long term care. We want to stop this from happening to anyone. These animals are usually all the family those individuals have and they want to make sure they will be taken care of. I just need to know how to get started. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your goals are very generous and important! I have assisted animal welfare organizations and they can qualify as a non-profit organization for tax purposes if formed right. Setting-up a Non Profit Organization requires far more work than a for-profit business. I have a complete checklist on my website:

You should definitely hire a tax lawyer experienced with non-profit entities.

I hope this helps!
