Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Ohio
My father was murdered in 1986. A suspect was charged, but the charges were dismissed partway through his trial. The court records were sealed. Is it possible for me to file a petition to unseal the evidence and records so that my father's case can be re-opened? Some of the evidence seemed to point to a different suspect, but we will never know if the records remain sealed. The case is in Ohio. Thank you!
1 Answer from Attorneys
You could file a petition with the Court to unseal the records. Whether or not that petition would be granted depends, at least in part, on why the record was sealed in the first instance. This is the kind of attempt that an individual can do without an attorney, but it makes sense to hire an attorney to look into the circumstances of why the case was sealed.
I hope this information is helpful, and I am sorry for your loss.
