Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Ohio
I didnt recieve a court date, so I was automatically guilty
I was in a car accident involving 3 vechiles. When I went to court I intended to plea not guilty. While I was waiting for my case a woman came up to me and basically told me I would be better off just to plea guilty. I do not know much about law so I did. The judge told me that I didnt have to pay restitution. After over a year past and then my mother signed for a paper for me from court. It said that the 3rd party of the accident was sueing me for $5000 for the damages to her 2003 Dodge Neon. It didnt have anything about a court date or anything it just said to call her attorneys office. I called and said that I was going to fight the $5000 claim, because there was no way there was that much damage to her car. A 2003 Neon blue books for $6500. I have pictures of her car and I recieved estimates on the damages fixed. There was stuff fixed that had nothing to do with the wreck. Next thing I know my mother handed me another letter from court. When I opened it, it said that I had missed the court date and had to pay the full $5000. I have never heard anything about a court date at all so how can they do this to me. Someone please help me.
Please help,
Sarita

This is your lesson about ever going to court without a lawyer. Find someone near you to start undoing what you've done. By pleading guilty you admitted liability. Terrible. Find a lawyer where you're at and hire him today. Every moment counts.
