I have incurred a lot of debt over the last few years after my divorce. I have been in a place of feeling totally "frozen" and haven't been able to do anything, other than hide from collectors. I know I have to proceed but am truly scared. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Re: finding information about bankruptcy
I can understand how threatening the whole situation feels.
You can get information from books. Ask a librarian to help you, or ask in a bookstore, especially a bookstore that has a large se4ction of self-help law books.
However, you will not be able to know which books are good and which aren't.
The best thing for you to do is invest in getting good legal advice. The yellow pages of your phone book will carry notices for lawyers specializing in bankruptcy lw; many of them will probably give you an initial consultation for a very low price, if not for free. If you cannot afford to pay a lawyer, ask Legal Aid for help. Most bar associations also have panels of lawyers willing to help for reduced fees.
Good luck!
